ZoP Newest protection of armored vehicles
autorzy: Pavlo Shekhet
The radiation level of modern high-precision weapons is less than 1 percent of the power of a conventional rangefinder. New possibilities of complex counteraction to such missile guidance systems have been investigated: 1) coating with an uneven surface and with using materials with different optical properties. Diffuse (mixed) reflection of the beam occurs when the laser beam is aimed at such a coating. This distorts the location of the object for the guidance system. To model the coating, glass fragments of different sizes were glued to the metal sheet. The reflection of the laser beam from the coating was filmed on a mobile phone. The experiments were performed with and without camouflage mesh, with and without lighting, on small and large fragments of glass. Distortion of beam reflection was obtained during all experiments. The greatest distortion was observed on the model with small fragments of glass: a significant number of bright dots and bright planes in front and behind the model, which are larger in size than the point where the beam hit. Therefore, a high-precision weapon guidance system may mistakenly target any of these bright spots or planes. In this case, an attack will be carried out on the wrong target, which will save the lives of the military and armored vehicles; 2) blinding of the operator of the guidance system in the optical range using the Bucha effect, i.e. flicker, the frequency of which is slightly less than the frequency of the brain. This blindness is created by a lantern operating in strobe mode and placed between the fragments of the coating. The flickering of the lantern makes it possible to see the object but prevents it from pinpointing its location. In addition, prolonged exposure to such flicker may cause dizziness in the guidance system operator. Therefore, the use of the lantern in strobe mode prevents aiming in the optical range.
