UTIILIZATION OF DURIAN SEED WASTE STARCH (DURIO ZHIBETINUS MURR) AS BIODEGRADABLE PLASTIC WITH ADDITION OF TiO2

autorzy: TRI GUNAWAN MUSA, FIRA YURDANIANTI, AGUNG PUTRA

Plastic is a type of material whose use is designed to meet various human needs. These include packaging materials for food, mineral water bottles and various everyday needs. However, over time, the continuous use of plastic will have an impact on health and also on the environment because plastic contains Bisphenol A, which is very dangerous and difficult to decompose or break down. In order to reduce the many risks of using plastic, we need alternatives that are more environmentally friendly and harmless to health. Biodegradable plastic is a very potential candidate as it can be biodegradable in general. Starch-based bioplastics have several advantages, including being renewable, biodegradable and easy to process. The high starch content in durian seed waste of 43.6% has the potential to be used as a feedstock for bioplastics. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential of waste durian seed starch with the addition of TiO2 as an environmentally friendly bioplastic. The methods used are thickness measurements, tensile strength testing and creep strength testing. The best results of this study were samples with a thickness of 0.2 mm, a tensile strength of 22.96% and an elongation of 25.55%. The results obtained are biodegradable plastic made from durian seed waste starch with added TiO2 can be an alternative to plastic. The use of waste-based materials is natural, the results obtained in this study, environmentally friendly, harmless to health, and has affordable production costs for all people.
