This study aims to reduce diabetes prevalence in the country so, crude extracts of the collected samples in the locality undergone phytochemical analysis to identify bioactive compounds present and α-glucosidase inhibition assay where their inhibitory effect to produce glucose were detected through the absorbance in the Spetrophotometer. Results indicated bioactive compounds present in Bitan-ag (Kleinhovia hospita) –steroids; in Hagonoy (Chromolaena odorata) cardiac glycosides, steroids; in Costus speciosus saponins, steroids; in Gynura procumbens saponins, terpenoids; in Dumb cane (Dieffenbachia picta) phenolic compounds, steroids; and in Spondias dulcis tannins, saponins, terpenoids and flavonoids. Results further showed that there is significant difference between the treatments since the p-value is less than 0.05. The difference is between the alpha-glucosidase inhibitions of acarbose against the other treatments; there is no significant difference between the samples on their inhibitory activities. Dumb cane (Dieffenbachia picta) exhibited the highest percent inhibition among the plant samples with 22.98%. It is followed by Hagonoy (Chromonaela odorata) -18.28%, Bitan-ag (Kleinhovia hospita) – 13.78%, Costus speciosus – 13.44%, Gynura procumbens – 11.52% and Spondias dulcis – 9.07%. Therefore, the plant samples exhibited minimal inhibitory activity against alpha-glucosidase yet higher amount concentration has to be tested. These plant samples are not yet recommended for intake until further studies.
