BIBLIOTHERAPY TECHNIQUE FOR SELF HEALING

Mental health is an expression of emotions and symbolizes the ability to adapt in various pressures and demands of life (KKM, 2020). Problem Statement: MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL SELF-HEALING AMONG STAFFS USING MARA BIBLIOTHERAPY TECHNIQUE FOR BETTER PRODUCTIVITY. MARA as a caring employer emphasis on good mental health, in line with MARA's vision. Data shared by Human Resource Department stated that the number of employees who received counselling sessions in 2019 was 180 and in 2020 increased to 200, and raised to 224 in 2021. The rate of early-depression is also increasing during the Covid-19 pandemic. This affects work productivity in the organization. Bibliotherapy MARA consists of writing, reading and listening therapy. Bibliotherapy method 1. Screening the emotional state in staffs using HOUSE-TREE-PERSON test (John Buck,1948) 2. Librarian prescibes the suitable bibliotherapy book based on the emotional condition reflected from the HTP test. 3.Suggest staffs to share their problems in a Writing Workshop using self-written short stories (anecdotes) on how they face challenges positively. Phases of Bibliotherapy- identification, catharsis and insight are included. 3.The bibliotherapy book is published and read by other staffs to detect early depression, anxiety and stress levels.4. All 35 samples were tested with pre and post-test using the DASS-21 5. Results are then analysed. High cases of depression and anxiety will be sent to counsellors for close monitoring. 1.Depression level reduced 2.9% from 54.3% to 51.4% 2. Anxiety level reduced 17.1% from 45.7% to 28.6% 3. Stress level reduced 14.2% from 94.2% to 80.0%. Productivity increased as the operational cost reduced 79%, manpower reduced 82.8% and duration of program reduced 75%. Bibliotherapy technique has high novelty as the ‘Hikmah Saat Aku Diuji’ book is the first Bibliotherapy tailored made in Malaysia suits to government working culture, ISBN: 978-967-2264-07-1 and copy right number LY2023W00181. Bibliotherapy books has been sold 200 copies and distributed to 90 libraries in MARA and surprisingly, few public sectors such as BERNAMA, RISDA, DBKL, Perbadanan Perpustakaan Awam and University Malaya demand for more books. To sustain this project, we publish bibloitherapy books yearly with various theme. Our second book is ‘Bangkit dan Berlari’ focuses to boost motivations among staffs. Besides books, Bibliotherapy techniques are supported with Bibliotherapy Corner that provides serene ambiance for staffs to listen to audiobooks and rest. Bibliotherapy techniques won 5 GOLD MEDALS in various international and internal innovation competitions. Our next project is to focus on issues in youngsters and societies and to share these books with our communities. Hopefully we can contribute to better Malaysia towards MALAYSIA MADANI. HIGH NOVELTY- The first Bibliotherapy technique applied in government sector for self-healing, tailor-made to the working culture in Malaysia. Copy right number : LY2023W00181 Providing platform for employees to share their feelings handling challenges positively in working environment Providing insight and research data on Mental Wellbeing (Depression, Anxiety and Stress level) using inventory DASS-21 Intervention procedures can be taken by Human Resource Department at early phase of staff emotion wellbeing Bibliotherapy techniques introduced can be adapted and applied at other government and non-government sectors in Malaysia and other countries as Mental Wellbeing is a global issues. Currently, there is none bibliotherapy technique applied in government or non-government sectors in Malaysia to help in mental illness issues. Usually, employees with mental issues can be detected from cases reported by Counselling Unit in headquarters. Counselling programs and emotional stress management programs are conducted to focus groups. To overcome this problem usually, at critical stage can be detected by doctor’s reports. At this stage it was too late to help them. High medical bills for treatment will effect in high cost expenses. Employees with mental emotions will have to take leave for few days and this will reflect in decreasing productivity. BIBLIOTHERAPY TECHNIQUE FOR SELF HEALING SUPPORTS TRL no. 9 as it has undergoing the Commercial Deployment and supports SDG no 3 Health and Well Being. The advantages of BIBLIOTHERAPY TECHNIQUE FOR SELF HEALING is reflected in increase in productivity. 1. Cost of Bibliotherapy techniques are reduced 79% from RM247,925.00 spend in current Counselling Emotional Management Programs compared to RM19,000.00 spend in Bibliotherapy Programs. 2. Duration of Bibliotherapy Programs is 22 days to complete compared to 75 days taken to complete Counselling Emotional Management Programs. These saves 75% of operational duration time. 3. Manpower need for Bibliotherapy Programs is 71 compared to 413 needed in Counselling Emotional Management Programs. Hence, 82.8% manpower can be reduced. 4. From the research done using DASS-21 inventory test comparing the pre-test and post-test, data shown that Mental issues can be reduced 11.4% using Bibliotherapy Techniques. -Depression level decreased to 2.1% -Anxiety level decreased to 17.1% -Stress level decreased to 14.2% 5. From Didactic Analysis done, data shown that 98% employees satisfied with the Bibliotherapy book. 6. The quality time for working increased as stable mental emotions contribute to high motivation in workplace 7. Impacts of the project: - i. Mental cases reduced to 11.4% ii. Produced more writers among MARA employees and insight stories iii. MARA as a pace-setter in Bibliotherapy Techniques implemented to help employees with emotional issues iv. Increasing strategic partners in agencies involve to develop good relation v. Replication of Bibliotherapy Techniques in all 90 MARA’s Educational Institutes vi. Create trust and good bonding between management and employees Bibliotherapy can be applied in all government and non-government agencies in Malaysia and around the world as mental health is a global issues. Referring to Philip Kotler 7Ps in marketing involves: Product: Based on the market potential survey, there is a need and demand for healing books. Thus, MARA intends to meet those needs. Price: According to survey carried out around Klang Valley shows that there is demand for Healing Books as below: 1. 74.5% respondents willing to pay RM35.00 for a bibliotherapy physical book 2. 32% respondents willing to pay RM20.00 for audio bibliotherapy book 3. 53% respondents willing to pay RM35.00 for bibliotherapy e-book Promotion: The published book was shared at MARA's official social media and a circular letter to the Ministry of Rural & Regional Development (KKDW) to promote the books and Bibliotherapy techniques. The book shows high demand especially in government agencies. Place: The Healing Book have been sold 200 set in Klang Valley Malaysia and will be attending International Book Fair (Frankfurt, London, Korea, Egypt, Dubai etc.) People: MARA has collaborated with:- 1. International Islamic University (IIU) 2. MARA Technology University (UiTM) 3. Psychiatry Specialist, Universiti Kuala Lumpur Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP) 4. Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Packaging: The Healing Book published in 3 forms there are printed, e-book and audio book for readers. Process: The Healing Books has been sold through delivery services and attended events. Along with the market survey done, we had a market test for the books and surprisingly we managed to sell 200 set with the price off RM120.00 for printed book 1 & book 2 , audio book and e-book.
