Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) is an agency under the authority of the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development that was established on 1 March 1966, as a statutory corporate body subject to an Act of Parliament as a result of the resolution of the first Bumiputera Economic Congress in 1965. The Council's main responsibility is to promote, encourage, facilitate and implement socioeconomic and community development, especially in rural areas.
